This year's uproar over the censoring of articles in Cambridge University Press' journal China Quarterly proved, in a reverse sense, just how much clout the CUP name has. It was the very power and gravitas of the university's reputation as a bastion of learning excellence that fuelled the intense academic outrage over CUP’s decision - since reversed - to cull offending articles within China at the behest of the authorities.
