Telfer, Kieran, Burbidge are 4th December FutureBook BookTech judges: Deadline now extended to Friday to enter the BookTech Showcase

With only a few days left for companies to enter for our inaugural BookTech Showcase 2015, we’re delighted to announce the panel of judges who will be publicly grilling our shortlisted entrants at the Futurebook Conference on the 4th December - not to mention deciding who takes home the first ever bronze, silver and gold BookTech awards.

Representing the legacy publishing world is Hannah Telfer (left), Group Director of Consumer and Digital Development at Penguin Random House UK.

Selected as one of The Hospital Club’s Top 100 people working in Britain's creative industries in 2014, Hannah is responsible for leading the consumer insight, audience development, digital publishing, product development and audio teams at Penguin Random House in the UK.

An expert in developing ideas which push the definition of book publishing, Hannah must also ensure those ideas are actionable and authentic for a company with 168 cumulative years of history and experience; a perspective that will be invaluable when exploring the offerings of our seven BookTech hopefuls.

In the digital startup corner we have Dan Kieran, CEO and Co-Founder of Unbound.

Now five years old, Unbound remains one of the biggest success stories on the UK publishing startup scene, using crowdfunding to bring authors closer to their readers and producing prizewinning books that may otherwise have never seen the light of day.

As author and editor of nine books—including the first viral internet phenomenon to turn into a Sunday Times bestseller—Dan is also perfectly positioned to understand the pressures and opportunities for writers in a digital age, and to identify the innovative platforms and tools that might make a real difference to their careers.

And finally, ready with hard-hitting questions about commercial viability, will be Eileen Burbidge (left), Partner at Passion Capital and one of the UK’s most influential tech venture capitalists.

Recently appointed Chair of Tech City UK, Eileen serves on the Prime Minister's Business Advisory Group, is HM Treasury's Special Envoy for FinTech, and was made an MBE for services to UK Business in June 2015.

A self-admitted analogue bookworm, Eileen has heard thousands of pitches throughout her career in both America’s Silicon Valley and London’s Silicon Roundabout, giving her an unbeatable sense of what it takes for a young tech business to make the jump from promising concept to long-term success.
