Crystal Mahey-Morgan, founder of OWN IT!, on the five things and people inspiring her to think and work differently.
Hardware: 15-inch Macbook Pro - it's my mobile office and as it's fairly new and not yet cluttered with lots of random files saved on the desktop, I'm trying to be much more organised with how and where I save things so I've always got what I need readily available and easily to hand, especially when on the move.
Software: Airplane! It's a airplane simulator app game where you can choose from different missions. Whether I need to find a creative solution or solve a practical problem, pretending to fly an airplane over various seas and then successfully land it seems to really help focus my mind!
Book: The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money and Power by Daniel Yergin (Simon & Schuster). It's one of my all time favourite books and recently I've started re-reading as it is full of different types of business models, inspiring stories about start-ups and lots of lessons that anyone who has founded and launched their own business can learn from. It's also brilliantly written and as a comprehensive history of oil up to the modern day is so relevant in understanding much of what is going on in the world right now.
Idea: This from Muhammad Ali: "I know where I'm going and I know the truth, and I don't have to be what you want me to be. I'm free to be what I want."
Person: Muhammad Ali. He taught us anything is possible. He taught us love, compassion, freedom and what it really means to be uncompromisingly you and stand up for what you believe in. He was a natural born poet and with his words shook up the world. His story is the greatest. He's always inspired me to allow myself to be different, think different, work different, now more so than ever.
