Sara Miller McCune offers SAGE advice

Next year SAGE founder Sara Miller McCune will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publishing house she famously founded as a 24-year-old with just $500 borrowed from her relatives.

Her company now has close to 1,400 staff globally and, while it keeps details close to its chest, it has a turnover “in the $300m–$400m range”.  What’s more, SAGE is still independent and will remain so—decades ago Miller McCune and her husband George set up an estate plan for the business that prevents the company from being sold, apart from in exceptional circumstances.
