At Castle Howard, the magnificent baroque stately home situated in rolling hills north of York, staff are dismantling the elaborate Christmas decorations which have greeted visitors over the festive period. It’s been a busy time, with appearances from Father Christmas, choir performances and special evening openings, all part of the essential business of attracting visitors to the house and keeping the money coming in.
