My Job in 5: Jillian Levick, associate publicist, Watkins Publishing

Describe your role

I’m an associate publicist for both Watkins and Nourish titles and I also organise all our author events. I establish relationships with authors, create publicity campaign strategies, reach out to journalists, radio hosts, and bloggers to arrange impactful publicity coverage, and I book authors in for exciting events.

What do you like best about your role?

My favourite thing is how incredibly varied it is. In a typical day I can be found editing authors’ articles about niche topics for esoteric magazines, meeting with organisations such as Google and Wilderness Festival about partnerships, sending sparkly packages of gift books to journalists, and booking authors into radio interviews. Working in a fun, creative and supportive team is also a huge plus!

Which new titles are you working on at the moment?

Right now we’re about to launch the first books in an amazing series I’m working on called What Is? which are fresh, accessible intro guides to a variety of mind, body and spirit topics. They range from near-death experiences to numerology and hypnosis (to name a few), and offer expert and clear information on so many intriguing subjects for people at all levels of interest.

What will be next after books on mindfulness?

I predict that there will be an increase in interest for sound healing. It’s becoming fairly mainstream with popular figures like Deliciously Ella including it in her wellness workshops.

What advice would you give to those looking to work in the industry?

The best advice I can give is to be really open to any opportunities that come your way. If you allow yourself to dive into any job, you’ll meet colleagues, authors and collaborators across all fields who will inspire you and help you grow in ways you can’t predict.
