Describe your role
I assist on specialist digital projects across the four imprints of Kings Road Publishing: Blink, Templar, Studio Press and Weldon Owen. My role enables me to work on a wide spectrum of exciting projects, from app scoping and testing, to e-book management and sales reports, website coding and, most recently, our audiobook programme.
What do you like best about your role?
I love every part of my job but it’s very rewarding to see consumers engage with and enjoy our products. I’m lucky to be involved in really diverse projects and be able to do things differently, whether I’m working on illustrated children’s books or adult non-fiction.
Which new titles are you working on at the moment?
A few of the most exciting upcoming projects are our audiobook partnership with Bolinda which will feature some of Blink’s bestselling authors, and new apps such as The Shmee150 Supercar Book App by Shmee150, Monsters and Heroes of the Realms, the Dungeons and Dragons colouring app and Face by Pixiwoo.
How do you see working in a digital role developing?
Digital has already become an integral part of publishing and in the future it will be at the forefront of the industry. I reckon a digital role will further adapt to encompass a plethora of products and services, while at the same time new skillsets will emerge as the market evolves.
What advice would you give to those looking to work in the industry?
Be open to try different roles and learn as much as you can about the industry. Getting work experience and reading a lot of books is an advantage, but it’s mostly about being committed to it and taking every opportunity to do something different that will help you stand out.
