May 2021: Paperback Previews

A lot of hopes are being pinned on May, when— fingers crossed—shops will be open, and booksellers will be able to display the riches on offer this month to their customers in person. In a huge month (400-odd books were submitted to me), literary fiction is incredibly strong, with David Mitchell and Ali Smith both publishing in paperback this month, as are Xiaolu Guo, D B C Pierre, Gabriel Krauze and László Krasznahorkai.
