To every thing there is a season. It might not feel like it, with the current lack of green shoots both in the economy and in the world order, but spring is set to arrive to time in the publishing schedules with the usual sudden plethora of gardening books, and a hive of activity in the natural history genre. A special mention for the ever-verdant John Lewis-Stempel who has two books out this month: The Worst Journey: Life and Death Aboard the Royal Navy’s Arctic Convoys, 1941–5 from Robinson and The Wood: The Life and Times of Cockshutt Wood.
