March 2017 New titles: Fiction Previews

I try not to use the word masterpiece too often but, after much consideration, I think it is a fitting description for March’s Book of the Month: Lincoln in the Bardo (Bloomsbury). With eight books of short stories and essays to his name, including the Folio Prize-winning Tenth of December, George Saunders is widely acknowledged to be an extraordinary writer and his admirers include Zadie Smith, Jonathan Franzen, Margaret Atwood, Dave Eggers and Jennifer Egan. But nothing prepared me for his début novel. I know it is only March, so dangerously early to call, but this will surely be my book...
