World Book Day is 20 years old this March, and it remains one of the trade’s most effective promotions, delivering an energetic, positive message about reading and books to millions of children. Led by David Walliams, Jacqueline Wilson and Julia Donaldson, this year’s £1 book line-up is suitably stellar, but this is a prime opportunity to reach out to children who may feel books are not for them, and a more diverse selection for future years’ schemes seems essential.
