January 2018 New titles: Fiction Previews

January is a month for débuts and particularly for crime and thriller débuts. As I mentioned in December’s round-up, pretty much every imprint has a horse in the race to be the crime début of 2018 in the vein of the barnstorming The Girl on the Train (which I thought was terrific, and The Bookseller was first to interview Paula Hawkins). So it is with some dismay that I feel duty-bound to tell you booksellers that I cannot summon up anywhere the hyperbolic levels of enthusiasm - “the most hotly- anticipated psychological thriller of 2018!”, “Prepare for the next global crime sensation!” ...
