February 2022 New Titles: Fiction Previews

This month in literary fiction, I noticed new novels from several authors after a considerable gap. The Swimmers (Fig Tree), an Editor’s Choice for me, is the first novel from Julie Otsuka since The Buddha in the Attic in 2012. Well worth the wait though. Monica Ali, who made a deep impression with her debut Brick Lane, returns with Love Marriage (Virago), her first novel in 10 years. Comfortably beating both is Pankaj Mishra’s Run and Hide (Hutchinson Heinemann), the first novel in 20 years from the Indian writer; it explores globalism, masculinity and a changing world order.
