February 2017 Paperback Previews

Booksellers could go either way with Valentine’s Day displays this year: romantic and raunchy, with titles such as Penrose Halson’s tale of a 1939 marriage bureau, Marriages are Made in Bond Street, and Jilly Cooper’s excitably titled Mount!; or dark and heartbreaking, with novels such as Tim Parks’ Thomas and Mary, labelled “as effective an antidote to Valentine’s Day as you could find” by the Daily Mail, and Sabahattin Ali’s moving Madonna in a Fur Coat. I’d personally plump for the dark and gloomy every time, but whatever floats your boat.
