Historical fiction is having something of a moment in August, taking readers from the goddesses of ancient greece in Imogen and Isabel Greenberg’s Athena to a remote tribe in the late 19th-century Philippines in Candy Gourlay’s Bone Talk. Katherine Woodfine and Sally Nicholls give us mystery and intrigue in early 20th-century Europe and my book of the month is Emma Carroll’s wonderful ancient Egyptian adventure Secrets of a Sun King.
