April 2019 New Titles: Fiction Previews

Happy New Year! Although, in the world of fiction, it is April already and the big-name novels coming your way include Ian McEwan’s Machines Like Me (Cape), which details an AI love triangle in an alternative 1980s London; Michelle Paver’s masterfully creepy gothic thriller, set in an Edwardian manor house, Wakenhyrst (Head of Zeus); and my Book of the Month, Jill Dawson’s The Language of Birds (Sceptre), a retelling of the Lord Lucan case which is beautifully written and quietly devastating. She is another (female) novelist whose sales deserve to be much, much bigger.
