Sphere has hired Rebecca Farrell pictured as commissioning editor for its fiction list, acquiring new commercial women’s fiction and working with some of Sphere’s top brands.
Joining on 20th April, Farrell will be commissioning everything from saga to romcoms to sweeping historicals, reporting into Sphere Fiction editorial director Darcy Nicholson.
Farrell most recently worked for Simon & Schuster UK, where she has been acquiring commercial, female-driven fiction and working with brand authors and new voices, including Heidi Swain, Claire Frost, Santa Montefiore, Kate Rhodes and Paige Toon. Before that she also worked at Blink Publishing and Bonnier Zaffre.
Farrell said: "I have loved being a part of Simon & Schuster UK for the past two years, where I have been lucky enough to acquire exciting new voices and develop existing commercial brands. I will miss my colleagues and authors hugely, but the opportunity to join Sphere was too hard to ignore. Sphere has an incredibly exciting list and a stellar reputation in bringing commercial fiction to readers, and I can’t wait to join them in this new role."
Nicholson said: "Bec has really impressed us all here, she is both creatively and commercially minded and brings with her a fantastic range of experience – I can’t wait to welcome her to the team. I’m looking forward to seeing the talent she will bring to the Sphere list, I’ve no doubt her star will only continue to rise."
