Macmillan Children’s Books and literary charity Bookmark have joined forces to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book.
The 2020 anniversary will see a new release of the book with a special foiled cover and additional bonus content inside—a letter from Donaldson and how Scheffler brought the characters in the story to life.
A copy of Charlie Cook... will be donated to each Bookmark Box, a Bookmark initiative that aims to help children enjoy reading through a selection of books and literacy games. MCB and Bookmark will also launch a new Charlie Cook themed game.
Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book is the story of Charlie Cook who is reading about a pirate captain. The pirate captain is also reading about another character, and so on. It’s the story of worlds within other worlds.
Associate publisher at MCB Alyx Price said: "We are excited about our partnership with Bookmark to celebrate Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book. There are many parallels between the story of Charlie Cook’s adventures and Bookmark’s ethos of nurturing children’s love of reading, and showing them the building blocks to help them create their own story. It’s a really great project."
Bookmark’s c.e.o Kitty Higgins added: "We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with Macmillan Children’s Books for this special anniversary year. Charlie’s Cook Favourite Book is a brilliant story for getting children excited about reading, which we know has a direct impact on the development of their literacy skills. It will be fantastic for our volunteers to use these resources in their reading sessions and the Charlie Cook game will really support our commitment to helping children learn through play."
