Zarr to star for Usborne
01.01.70 | Katie Allen
Usborne has acquired a new standalone title by US author Sara Zarr.
Fiction director Rebecca Hill bought English language, UK and Commonwealth rights from Kristin Dulaney at Hachette Book Group, for The Lucy Variations.
It will be released in the UK on 7th May to coincide with its US publication by Little, Brown.
The YA book features Lucy Beck-Moreau who once had a promising future as a concert pianist, performing all over the world. However, two years later and Lucy, now aged 16, has walked away from her career, following a death and a betrayal, leaving her ten-year-old brother Gus to shoulder the family's expectations. However, when Gus gets a new piano teacher, who is young, kind and interested in helping Lucy rediscover her love of piano things starts to change, though Lucy has to battle to learn to play just for herself.
Hill said: "Following on from the critically-acclaimed How to Save a Life, we're absolutely thrilled to be publishing this remarkable glimpse into the glamorous and high-pressure world of top-level music competitions from the incomparable Sara Zarr."
