YA novel inspired by Great Gatsby to Egmont
10.04.12 | Katie Allen
Egmont is to publish a YA novel inspired by F Scott Fitzgerald's classic The Great Gatsby.
Commissioning editor Philippa Donovan pre-empted UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding ANZ) in Great by Sara Benincasa in a deal with the author's US agent Scott Mendel at the Mendel Media Group. Film adaptation rights and ANZ and translation rights are also being handled by Mendel. Egmont will publish under its Electric Monkey imprint.
The novel is set in the modern-day Hamptons over one "steamy" summer. It follows the narrator and and her celebrity nouveau riche mother, and a mysterious young woman's campaign to insinuate herself into the life of a beautiful ingenue.
Great is Benincasa's first YA novel. Her first title was Agorafabulous: Dispatches from my Bedroom.
