Jon Wood has been promoted to the newly-created role of deputy group publisher of Orion, joining the group executive as a result.
The new responsibilities, which include developing and implementing a group-wide strategy, will sit on top of his current position as publishing director of Orion Fiction and Gollancz.
Wood will report directly to deputy chief executive and group publisher Malcolm Edwards. He will also be a voice on the group executive for all editorial departments.
Peter Roche, Orion chief executive, said: "In recent years we have become increasingly impressed not just by Jon’s proven abilities as a publisher, but by his interest in and grasp of the key strategic issues with which we have to grapple. I know his insights will be extremely valuable to the group executive, and I congratulate him warmly on this promotion."
Wood joined Orion in 2000 as editorial director of Orion Fiction and succeeded Jane Wood as publishing director in 2005. He became publishing director of Gollancz in 2008.
Wood said: "I’m very much looking forward to extending my publishing experience and learning the ropes of overall list strategy. I can’t think of a better way of doing that than working closely alongside a publisher with Malcolm’s track record."
