Weidenfeld & Nicolson has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to biographer Anne Sebba's next book. Clare Alexander, agent at Aitken Alexander Associates sold the rights to Alan Sampson, publisher at Weidenfeld & Nicolson.
That Woman will be about Wallis Simpson who became a hate figure and object of scandal in the 1930s for allegedly causing Edward VIII to abdicate in order to marry her, a twice-divorced woman.
The title will be the first serious yet sympathetic book to be written about Simpson by a woman. The book is titled That Woman because this is what the then Queen Mother supposedly called her.
