The Backbench Business Committee will debate multinational companies and UK corporation tax in Westminster today (27th June).
MP Chris White, who represents booksellers Francis and Keith Smith, is a member of the committee and initiated the debate.
The Smiths launched a petition protesting about Amazon’s low tax payments which attracted 150,000 signatures, including that of Stephen Fry, and was handed into 10 Downing Street in April.
The petition called for Amazon to pay more corporation tax on its earnings in the UK to the UK, instead of to Luxembourg, where its European headquarters are based.
Chris White, MP for Warwick and Leamington, attended Downing Street on the day the petition was handed in.
The debate will take place at 2.30pm and will be streamed live on Parliament TV.
