Macmillan Children’s Books is to hold a Gruffalo fundraising event tomorrow for Red Nose Day. As a supporting partner of this year’s Comic Relief, the popular children’s book character will be hosting the fundraiser in Westfield Shopping Centre, London.
On 23rd February, the North Atrium of the Shepherd’s Bush shopping complex will be transformed into the Gruffalo’s Deep Dark Woods. The free activities will last from 10am to 5pm and will include two readings of the much-loved children’s stories from TV personality Edith Bowman and radio presenter Shaun Keavney.
Only 200 people will be able to attend the free book readings, but other events will be open to the public throughout the day. Organisers at Macmillan Children’s Books are also encouraging fancy dress, with prizes being awarded for the scariest costume and biggest growl.
Last week, Macmillan Children’s Books released a special edition Gruffalo sticker book for £2.99. At least £2 of profits made from every Gruffalo Red Nose Day Book will go to the charity. The children’s book and television character, created by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, has also featured heavily in the Red Nose Day Early Years Pack, used in schools to promote fundraising. The Red Nose Day Song Book is currently top of the Apple iBookstore chart.
Red Nose Day is on 18th March. Proceeds from Comic Relief go towards helping disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa. Visit
