Waterstone's has launched its second Picture This illustration competition, partnering with HarperCollins, the Daily Telegraph and children's author Michael Morpurgo.
The competition was launched in the Daily Telegraph Review and on Waterstones.com on Saturday (30th April) with a hunt for the nation's favourite fairytale. The public will be able to vote online with the winner announced in May at the Hay Festival; Morpurgo will write a version of the chosen fairytale, with illustrators invited to submit their take.
The winning illustrator, who receives a £6,000 contract, will be announced in October, with the resulting book published with HarperCollins Children's Books in autumn 2012. The title will be sold as an exclusive with Waterstone's for six months.
The competition was launched two years ago, with winner Karen George illustrating Julia Donaldson's story Freddie and the Fairy. The title was published in late 2010, and sold over 35,000 copies by Christmas according to the retailer.
