Walker Books has teamed up with US developer Scrollmotion to launch nine of the publisher's classic picture books to the App Store in the UK.
Kicking off with Guess How Much I Love You? by Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram, the apps enable the reader to record their own audio to accompany the text and images, so children can listen to a familiar voice read the story. They also include features such as image exploration, a visual table of contents, auto-read and jumbo text. They will retail for £2.99 each.
The other titles are You’re All My Favourites, by the same author-illustrator team, Penguin by Polly Dunbar, Bringing Down the Moon by Jonathan Emmett and Vanessa Cabban, Can’t You Sleep, Little Bear by Martin Waddell, Handa’s Hen by Eileen Browne, Little Beaver and the Echo by Amy MacDonald and Sarah Fox-Davies, Ravenous Beast by Niamh Sharkey, and Some Dogs Do by Jez Alborough.
Walker Books’ head of digital Paul Rhodes said the apps were "far more than ebooks". He added: "They’re a real progression in interactive, digital publishing and their flexibility cannot be overstated. Brilliant for parents who have to travel, each app is just as useful for those car journeys when a parent cannot supervise a child’s reading, as a worthwhile distraction at night-time, or in social environments when a collection of beautiful interactive stories is just the thing to calm noisy children."
