Walker buys global rights in Leslye Walton
17.08.12 | Charlotte Williams
Walker Books Group has acquired global rights in YA title The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, in a six-figure deal.
Candlewick Press in the US, Walker Books in the UK and Walker Books Australia joined forces to buy global rights in the novel by Leslye Walton through Bernadette Baker-Baughman at Victoria Sanders & Associates. The title is scheduled for simultaneous publication in spring 2014.
The book tells the story of a 16-year-old girl with useless wings who traces her lineage to understand why she was born this way, and the man who tragically mistakes her for an angel.
Walker Books UK editorial director for fiction Gill Evans said: "The compelling, almost hypnotic, quality of Ava's story is a gift of another world and lives lived out in mysterious and engrossing ways. The tender story of the curious girl with bird's wings builds to an unthinkable crescendo and the reader is left longing to hear the song play on.”
