W H Allen buys Glass Closet from Browne

W H Allen has acquired a title by John Browne, former c.e.o. of BP, to be titled The Glass Closet.

The title is described as part memoir, part reportage and part analysis, and will address "the issue of homophobia that still pervades corporations around the world".

Lord Browne resigned from BP in 2007 as a direct result of revelations connected to his sexual orientation. Drawing on his own experience and those of prominent gay businessmen and women from the UK and around the world, Browne will illustrate why, despite the risks involved, self-disclosure is best for employees and the businesses that support them.

The title will be published in June 2014 to coincide with World Pride and the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.

Publishing director Ed Faulkner bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Ed Victor in a pre-emptive deal. Faulkner said: "The Glass Closet is a book that will change people's lives. Lord Browne is an inspirational leader and his book will inspire confidence in gay men and women to achieve greater success."

Lord Browne said: "I wish I had been brave enough to come out earlier in my tenure as c.e.o. of BP. I regret it to this day. I know that if I had done so I would have made more of an impact for other gay men and women. With The Glass Closet I hope to give some of them the courage to make an impact of their own."
