Joel Dicker and his French publisher have denied that The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair (MacLehose Press) is to be made into a film directed by Ron Howard.
Deadline reported that Warner Bros has acquired the novel, with Oscar winner Howard’s Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer producing the film with him. But Dicker took to Twitter to deny it saying, "CLARIFICATION : Warner Brothers has not bought the rights to adapt "The Truth..." and Ron Howard will not direct the film."
An official clarification from Dicker’s Parisian editor, Bernard de Fallois read:
"It was with astonishment that Editions de Fallois have learned that Warner Bros claim to have acquired the Joël Dicker novel The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair. This information was published first by the Deadline Hollywood and after by Variety and was simultaneously relayed over many different websites. Editions de Fallois wishes to deny officially and formally this rumour that Warner Bros cannot in any case spread itself on the Internet.
"If it is true that negotiations are underway as well as with many other film production companies in different countries, no negotiations have yet been reached and the rights still belong to the publisher Editions de Fallois."
Dicker’s novel is a literary murder mystery, which has been a bestseller across Europe. It has been sold into 42 territories.
The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair centres on a writer, Marcus Goldman, who returns to visit his mentor Harry Quebert. When the body of a missing 15-year-old girl turns up in Quebert’s garden, Goldman is determined to prove the man’s innocence.
The novel is published in the UK on 1st May.
