Unabridged Proust from Naxos
05.09.12 | Katie Allen
Naxos AudioBooks is to release Proust’s Remembrance of Things Past in what the publisher is billing as its first unabridged recording.
Read by audiobook actor Neville Jason, Proust’s seven-volume classic will be released as 120 CDs and on download, and runs for some 150 hours.
Jason, who abridged and recorded a version of Remembrance between 1991 and 2000, said: “At first, I was rather daunted by the prospect . . . I have been recording books all my life, but Proust is enormous, not just in the sheer number of words—well over one million—but also in its scope. But one morning I realised I had to do it. It was a simple as that."
The first installment of Remembrance, Swann's Way, was released in February, with the final part, Time Regained, and the full set, to be released on 29th October. The full 120-CD set will be priced £380.
