UK titles including Tweet Treats vie for Gourmand awards
04.01.12 | Charlotte Williams
The UK has 16 titles making the Gourmand cookery book award shortlists this year, down on 21 in 2010, with Latin America topping the worldwide leader board with the region producing 35 shortlisted titles.
Among the shortlisted titles from the UK are Meat Free Monday Cookbook by Paul, Stella and Mary McCartney (Kyle Books), shortlisted in the special awards of the international jury category, and Baking Made Easy by Lorraine Pascale (HarperCollins), up for the TV-English award, and the Jamie Oliver 30 Minute Meals app, shortlisted in the Apps category, the first year this has been included in the awards.
Some of the more unusual titles to be shortlisted from around the world are Sausage Masterpieces by Janez Bogataj, a Solvenian title published by Rokus Klett, and O'Brien Press' Tweet Treats by Jane Travers, which is comprised of 140 recipes, each made up of only 140 characters.
The shortlists will be judged by a panel comprised of awards committee chairman, Edouard Cointreau, Sara Baer-Sinnott, president of the Oldways Exchange and Trust Foundation, Jean Jacques Ratier, director of the Hospitality School of Dordogne, and author Bo Masser.
The winners will be announced at the Theatre Folies Bergere in Paris on Tuesday 6th March, the night before the start of the Paris Cookbook Fair. Seventy-nine awards will be given out, down on 120 last year, with 283 finalist competing overall. Books from 71 countries make up the shortlisted titles, with the awards aiming to reward those who "cook with words".

I'm not sure whether the good folks at Gourmand consider Wales as part of the UK but we've been notified that Flavours of Wales by Gilli Davies, London Oyster Guide by Colin Pressdee, and Cooks and Kids by Alan Rustad (all published by Graffeg) are all through to the Paris final as winners from Wales.
