Walker Books has bought two young adult novels by former Desmond Elliott winner Edward Hogan.
Senior commissioning editor Mara Bergman bought world English rights from Veronique Baxter at David Higham Associates. The first book, Daylight Saving, will be published in spring 2012 with the second following in 2013.
The former is about teenager Daniel Lever who meets a mysterious girl called Lexi while on holiday with his father. However, Lexi is covered in cuts and bruises and soon she is forced to face the horrors of her past.
Bergman said: "I am thrilled to have acquired Edward Hogan's first book for teens. It's got everything going for it—it's quirky, humorous, mysterious and full of heart. It's a bit creepy too! And Daniel is a terrific character."
This is Hogan's first book for young adults. In 2009, he won the Desmond Elliott Prize for his novel Blackmoor (Simon & Schuster).
