Tulisa turns novelist for Headline
03.02.12 | Charlotte Williams
Headline has secured world rights to an autobiography and two novels by N-Dubz and “X-Factor” star, Tulisa Contostavlos.
Deputy publishing director Sarah Emsley acquired the three books at auction through Jonathan Shalit of talent agency ROAR Management, with “stiff competition” from six other publishers. The publisher plans to release her autobiography in autumn 2012, with the two novels to follow consecutively in 2013 and 2014.
Twenty-three-year-old Contostavlos grew up in Camden, north London, and acted as the sole carer of her mother when she was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. She first rose to fame as the singer in hip-hop group N-Dubz, with the group winning four MOBO awards. She became a judge on ITV1 talent show “The X Factor” last year, mentoring girl group Little Mix to become the first group winners of the show. She is currently working on her first solo album.
Emsley said: “Tulisa is an incredibly talented writer and musician and is an inspiration for young women everywhere . . . Tulisa’s story has incredible breadth and depth for someone so young, and we are absolutely thrilled that she has chosen Headline to be her publisher.”
Headline m.d. Jane Morpeth added that Headline is “equally as thrilled to be publishing her novels” as her autobiography, and said: “As the early material shows, Tulisa has a wonderful grasp of plot and characterisation, and a clear, strong voice runs throughout her work.”

"Tulisa has a wonderful grasp of plot and characterisation, and a clear, strong voice runs throughout her work.” - er, yes, that of her ghost writer...
...in complete agreement!
Stop being so negative!
If it sells we will take it.
Well done Headline!
Incredibly, talented writer Tulusa has the vocabulary of a 12-year-old. They'll fly off the shelves then
Give me strength, God.
Don't bring Me into this.
The name of the game, surely working in a bookshop is to,er,sell books?
If she sells books and brings customers in then good for the bookseller
Yet again, raging snobbery is on parade within the comments board. If it doesn't fit in with your personal ideal of what is intellectual or highbrow, then you belittle it. Just don't whinge when I and so many other customers continue to take our business to Amazon, just to avoid the sneer as you bag up our plebian choices.
As a Bookseller and avid reader I am absolutely staggered at the snobbery and small mindedness of people from within our industry.
How dare anyone criticise someone thay don't know - this girl has made a real success of herself by writing (yes writing!) her own words & music.
Why don't you arrogant, "supposed", well-educated booksellers, take a look in the mirror and question how your supposed intelligence is being wasted?
Sadly, I agree with Sunset Sasparilla above - who wants to go into a shop where the staff feel that they have the right to "sneer" at the selection made by their customers.
What a sad business this is becoming.
Finally - well done to Headline - we'll be stocking your title.
Snobbery? Have you ever actually listened to her 'music'?
The Bat says: Anything or anyone that makes books and reading cool and trending on Twitter with 15-25 year olds - a diffictult demographic for bookshops to engage - is ok by me. I'll definitely be stocking Tulisa's books.
Preserved Killick - apologies - didn't realise this thread was about the words of the music that she has written. Oh - and the apostrophes around the word music - I presume you don't approve of that either
I agree with Bat!
Well, assuming you're the same person that commented above, you said 'this girl has made a real success of herself by writing (yes writing!) her own words & music'. Or was that someone else?
