Transworld Ireland launches new imprint
01.01.70 | Katie Allen
Transworld Ireland has launched a new imprint, Doubleday Ireland, aiming to "discover Ireland's newest generation of talented literary author".
The imprint will publish its titles both in Ireland and overseas, with territories changing on a book-by-book basis. The first novel to be published by the imprint will be Donal Ryan's The Spinning Heart, described as "an original, poignant and timely debut and one of the first literary novels to deal with the catastrophic social and human effects of Ireland's financial collapse". It will be co-published with The Lilliput Press in Ireland in October 2012, followed by UK publication in January 2013. Ryan's second novel will be published in autumn 2013.
The list will also include two novels by Alison Jameson, with the first, Little Beauty, to be published in April 2013. Set in 1970s rural Ireland, the publisher described it as "a lyrical, atmospheric novel, which tells the story of a woman who is forced to give up her child".
Transworld Ireland publisher Eoin McHugh will head up the imprint from Dublin, though London-based editors will also acquire for the imprint. McHugh said: "Doubleday is one of the most famous names in publishing, with a great literary heritage. We are delighted to build on that heritage with the launch of Doubleday Ireland and particularly to be starting the list with two such accomplished and original writers as Donal and Alison."
Transworld Ireland was launched in May 2008, publishing in the areas of sport, popular fiction and autobiography.
