Transworld editorial director Simon Taylor has bought UK and Commonwealth rights to the comic travel memoir Narrow Dog at Wigan Pier.
The book, by Terry Darlington, is the third in the Narrow Dog series. Taylor bought the rights for a good five figure sum from David Smith at the Annette Green Authors Agency. The book will be published in 2012.
The book is about Darlington's journey around the waterways of northern England, accompanied by his wife Monica, whippet Jim and new dog Jess.
Taylor said: "People were reminded just what a true original he is, how beautifully he writes, and how very, very funny he can be."
Smith said: "I think this is going to be Terry’s best book yet. Not only is it a very witty exploration of Englishness and a compelling travelogue, it is also a hilarious and poignant reminiscence of a life well-lived. Terry is a talent like no other."
