Tonto buys Inspiral Carpets memoir
01.04.11 | Charlotte Williams
Tonto Books has bought rights to the frank memoir of former Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley.
Tonto publisher Stu Wheatman bought world rights direct from Hingley to the aptly-titled Carpet Burns. The title will be published on 22nd September as a B-format paperback.
Inspiral Carpets rose to prominence during the vibrant "Madchester" scene of the late 1980s, along with The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, enjoying 15 Top 20 hits along the way.
The book will chart the Inspirals' rise, as well as Hingley's attempts to forge a career after the band split.
Wheatman said: "I'd been a fan of the band from when I was into all the Madchester stuff yonks ago . . . I think there are a lot of people my age that still look back at the scene with fond memories, and the music is just as popular."

I have been to a couple of Tom's lecture - really looking forward to the book. He offers a different take on those heady days.
Sounds like he@ll have an interesting story to tell. Must have seen a lot going on when he used to be a glass collector down the Hacienda.
