Headline imprint Tinder Press has acquired a new novel by Helen Walsh, who was previously published by Canongate.
Tinder Press publisher Mary-Anne Harrington acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in the novel, The Lemon Grove, with plans to publish in spring 2014. The deal was brokered by Jonny Geller at Curtis Brown.
The novel tells the story of a stepmother's sexual obsession with her daughter's teenaged boyfriend, which develops in the course of a family holiday in southern Spain.
Harrington described it as "a completely electric, consummately achieved piece of storytelling, and a novel I just had to publish. Helen has always written brilliantly and incisively about female desire and also about family, but The Lemon Grove is an ambitious departure for her as a novelist, and I'm convinced it will be her breakthrough book."
Walsh' previous three novels include her debut, Brass, which won the Betty Trask award in 2005, and Once Upon a Time In England, which won a Somerset Maugham award in 2009.
