Tim Manderson dies

Tim Manderson, former sales director at Heinemann, has died.

Manderson passed away on Sunday 27th January at the age of 83.

Born in 1929, Manderson went to Eton College and was a Wimbledon junior doubles champion in 1946. After his national service, he took his first role in publishing in 1949 as an editorial assistant at Harrap.

From 1950-1955 he was a sales manager at Alan Wingate. Briefly leaving publishing for the electrical industry, Manderson joined William Heinemann as PA to the chairman in 1961 and was made sales director in 1962.

His authors included Wilbur Smith and Catherine Cookson.

In 1988 he retired from Heinemann, taking on sales consultancy roles and working as a reader for Transworld and Random House, as well as previewing debut fiction for The Bookseller and Publishing News. He fully retired at the age of 80.

Manderson's son, Dallas, is group sales director at Orion.

The funeral will be held on Friday 8th February at 2 p.m. at St Bartholomews Church, Greens Norton, Nr Towcester, Northamptonshire. Family flowers only. Donations to Combat Stress.
