T&H's Camplin to retire

Thames & Hudson managing director Jamie Camplin is to retire.

Camplin, who joined T&H in 1969 and became m.d. in 2005, turned 65 earlier this year.

Chairman Thomas Neurath said: "Our success over seven decades has been founded on a focused commitment to the arts and the world of learning, and constant innovation in how we understand and interpret these to every new generation of reader. Jamie has played a crucially important part in achieving that success and as managing director has sustianed our growth and been a hugely talented and inspirational publisher.

"Not so many independents can look forward, as we at T&H do, to ending this year with volume sales excluding e-books, up as good as 10%."

Neurath added that "new talents and skills will be required to supplement the ones we already have", as the company continues to adapt to changes in the industry.

A search is now underway for a new chief executive. Camplin will remain at T&H to support the business through the period of transition. The publishing house has had only three managing directors in its entire 63-year history.

T&H also intends to create a new role of publishing director.
