Art book publisher Thames & Hudson is to close its Farnborough-based distribution arm after more than 40 years. Littlehampton Book Services is to handle T&H's warehousing and distribution from April 2009.
Chris Ferguson, operations director at T&H, said warehousing and distribution were "fundamentally very different businesses from publishing". But he said T&H was "in a much healthier state than many UK companies essentially because it can compete with anyone on originality and creativity in conceiving, making, promoting and selling books."
Ferguson added that the business would do "as much as possible to mitigate the impact of this future change on our Farnborough staff". The company has not divulged the number of employees affected.
All trade customers and client publishers will receive specific details of the transitional arrangements later in the year, the company said.
