Tesco 'to launch tablet'
19.08.13 | Bookseller Staff
Tesco is reportedly readying the launch of its own tablet in time for Christmas.
The Times has reported that the supermarket will sell the tablet for a relatively low price point of around £130, to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet and significantly undercut Apple’s iPad products.
The device is expected to have Tesco apps for online grocery shopping pre-loaded onto the device, as well as its Blinkbox app for digital books, music and films.
Last week The Bookseller reported that that Blinkbox was signing up digital content from publishers in time for a fourth quarter, pre-Christmas launch of Blinkbox books. Former Tesco head of books, Garry Blackman, is to join the Blinkbox books team leading its supplier relations as well as having a broader ambassadorial role for the company.
Tesco said it did not comment on “market speculation".
