Templar is readying its first e-book picture book releases for this autumn, as it marks the 10th anniversary of character Bob, the Man on the Moon, created by Simon Bartram.
The first title in the series, The Man on the Moon, will be released both as a straightforward digital picture book and in enhanced e-book form (price and release date still to be confirmed) for the iPad (pictured). The enhanced e-book will include audio narration by Bartram and animations.
Designer Nghiem Ta said: “The timing has worked out perfectly with the anniversary, and also technology catching up with what we want to do. In the UK it sounds as though there will soon be a lot more colour devices for consumers to choose from.”
The next picture book to be released as an e-book and enhanced digital edition will be The Pirate Cruncher by Jonny Duddle, also planned for the autumn. Nghiem Ta said Templar will assess whether to convert each picture book on a case-by-case basis: “I think you need to see if the story can stand the conversion—you don’t want it to lose the storyline.”
To mark the 10th anniversary of Bartram’s character there will also be a dedicated website for Bob, bobmanonthemoon.co.uk, launching on 1st September, which will provide resources for teachers using the books in the classroom.
