TBD needs "freedom" post Amazon takeover - IPG

The Independent Publishers Guild has accepted the OFT’s decision to clear the merger of Amazon and The Book Depository, but called on Amazon to “work hard” with its members to allay their concerns.

Following a survey, IPG members had expressed fears the merger might lead to more pressure on publishers to agree to less favourable terms, as well as arguing the deal might lead to a reduced book choice for UK consumers.

IPG chief executive Bridget Shine said: “We hope that The Book Depository, whose independent and innovative approach to online bookselling has been much admired by IPG members, will continue to have the freedom to develop its own character and strategy under Amazon.”

hahaha. So the company effectively gets bigger and more powerful, and the IPG want them not to use that power to get better terms. or even equal terms as its new parent company.

wouldnt that be one of the first email you are going to be getting.
if i merged with 3 other shops and so our combined spend raised, then it would certainly be one of the 1st emails / phone calls made.
IT IS UP TO THE PUBLISHERS HOW THEY RESPOND TO THE QUESTION. best would be NO we have reviewed our current terms and deicided the max any1 can have INCLUDING your parent company is 45%.
