ITV1 has commissioned an adaptation of Kate Summerscale’s Samuel Johnson Prize-winner The Suspicions of Mr Whicher (Bloomsbury).
"Hot Fuzz" and "24 Hour Party People" star Paddy Considine will play Inspector Jonathan Whicher in the two-hour drama, the true story of a scandalous murder case in the mid-Victorian era.
The adaptation was was commissioned by ITV director of drama commissioning Laura Mackie and controller of drama commissioning Sally Haynes. Haynes said "The Suspicions of Mr Whicher has been a huge literary success and Neil McKay has done a superb job adapting Kate Summerscale’s fascinating book. Paddy Considine is the perfect actor to bring Whicher to the screen".
The production company is Hat Trick Productions, with BBC Worldwide responsible for international distribution.
