Simon & Schuster has bought rights to a memoir by "Dirty Dancing" actor Patrick Swayze about his battle with cancer, for publication this autumn.
Mike Jones, editorial director for non-fiction, bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Lisa Keim at Simon & Schuster US’ Atria imprint. Keim bought world rights from Mel Berger and Suzanne Gluck at the William Morris Agency.
The book, as yet untitled and co-written by Swayze’s wife Lisa Niemi, will offer an account of his childhood, career and marriage, as well as his battle with stage four pancreatic cancer. Niemi, who has been married to the star of "Point Break" and "Donnie Darko" for more than 30 years, will give insight into her experience of helping a loved one battle with cancer.
Swayze said: "With everything I’ve been fortunate enough to do in my life, and covering such a wide range of diverse subject matters, I’m told that my story has been inspirational to people."
Mike Jones said: “Patrick and Lisa are much loved here in the UK, most recently for the determination and resolve they have shown in battling with Patrick’s illness. They have become an inspiration to many and all of us at S&S in the UK feel extremely privileged to be publishing their story.”
