Simon and Schuster Children’s Books has acquired two novels for nine to 12-year-olds from debut author Abi Elphinstone.
Jane Griffiths, commissioning editor at Simon & Schuster UK, bought the world rights from Hannah Sheppard at the DHH Literary Agency.
The first book, Oracle Bones, is a magical adventure story aimed at readers aged 9-12. It will be published in spring 2015 and a sequel will follow in 2016.
“Abi is a wonderful new voice in children’s fiction, and in Oracle Bones she’s created an evocative magical world that you can see and feel vividly from the first page,” said Griffiths.
“I’ve long been on the lookout for an exciting adventure with the classic feel of wonderful authors like Eva Ibbotson and Michelle Harrison, and Abi is the perfect fit for this area.”
