S&S acquires espionage memoir
20.12.12 | Sophie Hurcom
Simon & Schuster has bought Joe Corry’s Second World War memoir 005: Ian Fleming’s Last Agent.
Kerri Sharp acquired British and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Sallyanne Sweeney at Watson Little.
The war memoir from Corry with Keith Laidler, is described as an “exceptional story” of espionage and will be published in March 2014.
Grocer Corry volunteered for the Navy in 1940 and, an expert marksman, was asked to join the Special Services. He spent five years working behind enemy lines and the book contains stories normally only found in the James Bond series or films like the "Great Escape", according to the publisher.
During this time he convinced a German patrol he was Norwegian by reciting a tea advert in a Cumbrian accent, suffered torture at the hands of the Gestapo, ‘neutralised’ a Nazi scientist working on the V1 rocket and (as the title suggests) worked alongside James Bond’s creator Ian Fleming.
Sharp said the book is "everything you’d want to read in a Second World War memoir. It’s a gripping, rollercoaster account of extreme bravery and resourcefulness that also packs a powerful and emotional punch".
