Sphere wins Very British Problems

Sphere has acquired a book based on the Twitter feed Very British Problems following a “heated seven-way auction”.

Commissioning editor Hannah Boursnell bought world rights from Juliet Mushens at The Agency Group in a five-figure deal, with plans to publish it as an illustrated hardback and e-book this October.

Created by journalist Rob Temple, the @soverybritish account chronicles the socially awkward situations that could only happen to a Brit, including: “Not quite catching someone’s name, meaning you can never speak to them again”, and “Saying you’re pleased with your haircut despite the deep inner sadness it’s causing you”.

Boursnell said: “I am hugely excited to be publishing Rob’s original, sharp and very, very funny book. Very British Problems is a rare beast—an online phenomenon that will work perfectly in print. This will be the must-have humour book this autumn and an ideal Christmas gift for all members of the family.”
