Sphere to publish Judy Finnigan
01.04.11 | Katie Allen
Judy Finnigan, one half of publishing phenomenon Richard and Judy, is to publish her long-rumoured first novel with Sphere.
Catherine Burke, Sphere editorial director, signed world rights to two titles from Luigi Bonomi.
The first novel, Eloise, is a ghost story and a thriller about "overwhelming grief, passion and betrayal”. It follows Cathy, an apparently happily married woman in her late 40s who begins to have disturbing dreams after her best friend Eloise dies from breast cancer. Cathy has a history of depression and is recovering from a nervous breakdown, so when she confides in her husband her worries about what really happened to Eloise, he thinks she is losing her grip on reality once more.
Burke said: "Judy"s wonderful storytelling is utterly compelling. Eloise is reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier and Emily Brontë and the team and I are hugely excited to have the opportunity to work with Judy in bringing her novels to readers.
"Judy has been a brilliant champion of great fiction and it's clear from her writing that she knows exactly what it takes to tell a great story and get readers talking."
Finnigan added: "I am completely thrilled that this novel—a story I have been planning and thinking about for so long—is finally to see the light of day. I am already working on ideas for my second novel. At last I have the time to write—and I am loving it."
Sphere will publish in late 2012.

well done Judy. I'm sure it's a brill read, although I can't help thinking that she might not have got published if she hadn't been a 'sleb'
Ermmmmm!
Don't think celeb has anything to do with it.
Guess now we will see how worthy the R & J Book Club is.
Obviously the right thing to do is to withdraw it from ''selection''(WHS Buyers!)
Either way it has to do better than the Old Mans efforts... Actually that won't be difficult.
industrial nepotism. Although she was and is a trained journalist so at least she has learned her trade over many years.
Next up: Top selling author in the making Chloe Madeley talks about her up and coming bonk-buster.. (you saw it here first)
Or - maybe we could actually read the book and then voice an opinion... that would be pretty radical huh?
anyone hear an april fools in there...??
@Gilly: I never criticised the potential quality of the book - Never questioned the merit of either book or author. But I DO question HOW this particular 'author' managed to secure a MAJOR publishing contract. Pretty simple even for someone like you to understand. How's that for radical?
A warm welcome to the Sphere stable Judy. I've been with them in one incarnation or another for a great deal of my published career and they're a great bunch.
