Sceptre author Natasha Solomons is attempting to beat the world record for the largest number of publicity events as part of the build up to her new novel published next month.
The publicity campaign for Mr Rosenblum's List or Friendly Guidance for the Aspiring Englishman will endeavour to include more than 175 different events in one year. These will encompass a host of different activities from talks at book groups, literary festivals and libraries to events at Women's Institute meetings and golf clubs.
The title is about a Jewish-German refugee who comes to England in 1937 and longs more than anything to assimilate and so compiles a list of English attributes. Henry Jeffreys, Solomons' publicist, said the book would appeal to people of all ages, but the marketing is primarily targeted at women over 40. He said copies of the book with postcards for comments were sent to hundreds of mothers, most of whom wrote back with "rapturous praise".
The tour kicks off officially with a launch at Ibberton Village Hall in Dorset on 27th March. Mr Rosenblum's List is due to be published by Sceptre on 1st April as a £12.99 hardback.
Jeffreys added: "Mr Rosenblum's List is a novel that deserves to become a huge word-of-mouth success and the best way of generating this is for the author to meet as many book-lovers as possible. We thought a record-breaking tour would enable this as well as generating publicity about the attempt itself."
